Let's get sorted!
Get your kids space organised with this plan from storage expert, Fiona Chandler of Fiona Kate
Some books are ripped, what does that ball go with? Do I keep this piece of art? Or is it a treasure or trash ( note do not ask this of a 3 year old EVERYTHING is treasure) My feet were sore from all the lego pieces, hair bobbles, barbie shoes and trains... & lets just say I was a little cross... So we made a plan for the next time it rained & we didn’t have to wait long... In advance organise some boxes or crate tubs etc that you would like to use, some thing toddler tough and kid friendly. Tip every single toy container, tub, basket, pile onto an old blanket in the middle of the floor this part was great fun, loud. Hunt for stray toys, books and kid stuff behind beds, bottom of cupboards, mums handbags, car seats everywhere. Trust me when you ask your kids where toys might be hiding they come up with amazing places... other things might be hiding there too. Remember all those odd socks you were hanging onto? Organise each box with a label or a photo for what will go inside - keep it simple & save a very large box for unwanted toys. Ensure each of these boxes fits a space under the bed or in a cupboard. Left in the middle of a room it is too tempting - it will be tipped out and used as a car or cubby in no time. Line up all the boxes & crates approximately a good throw away. Ready set go... throw as many into each box as you can. Warning this is noisy but a lot of fun. I loved throwing all that plastic tat! The toys were tidy and the kids found & played with lost treasure... a full day occupied. The same packing away throwing game “let get sorted” can be played at the end of each and everyday! Any thing unwanted, not used, pop into your local charity bin. All broken toys and those with missing bits throw out! End result = happy mum and happy kids! |
