Pi’ikea Street Interactive AlphabetFlash ABC Flashcard app30 May 2012I don’t think it would be possible to count all of the ABC flashcard type applications there are available now. It can all be so confusing for us parents. I know I have a few of the free ones on my iPhone, but the kids just haven’t gotten into them. So when I stumbled across Pi’ikea Street, and their Interactive Alphabet app, I thought I’d download it to my iPad and give it a go. It’s far from the cheapest app available (at $4.19 NZD), but I liked what their website had to say, and I liked the look of the pictures if nothing else. I’ve decided it was well worth the asking price. If you consider you would pay more than double that for even basic flashcards from the bookshop, it’s awesome value for money, especially after factoring in the additional entertainment value. And the other bonus is, it works on all both my iPad and my iPhone. Each flashcard has an interactive component – for example, A for apple allows you to tap, swipe and pinch the apple, chomping away at it... B for beach allows you to make the sun rise and set, and build a castle in the sand. Z for zipper was a definite hit, as was the sneaky L for Lion that would turn the light back on when Miss 4 turned it off. According to Miss 4, the official rating I should be giving this app is “5 for awesome”. That’s “5 out of 5 mummy”, just in case there’s any confusion. It’s magic apparently. I may never get my iPad returned to me. Love your iPad, iPhone or iPod as much as we love ours? Keep an eye out on our gadgets and gizmos page for app reviews. |
