Handmade: Geek Booteek

Yes, please play with your food!

Aimee Brock
17 August 2010

My parents taught me never to play with my food, but now I’m teaching my own kids the complete opposite! Well – with very realistic looking felt material party food, anyway. I’ve discovered the wonderful world of colourful toy snacks and treats from Geek Booteek, a very cool ‘softies’ label run by a husband and wife team in Auckland. Karla and her husband also run the hugely successful indie, alternative Kraftbomb craft market in Grey Lynn, Auckland, which is about to have its second birthday on August 29th. The latest party food softie they are introducing at the market is a cute ‘movie popcorn’ box, with hand-stitched smiling faces. It joins felt cupcakes, fairy bread, sausage rolls, cheerio sausages – the list goes on.

My stomach is rumbling just writing about them all!

These yummy colourful treats will provide hours of fun for your kids – whether it be for a tea party with their toys, watching an imaginary movie session, or putting on a play performance in the living room. Enjoy!

Geek Booteek’s felt food snacks are available on Etsy or at Kraftbomb or by custom order through their website. (NB: Be warned – on their website they also create ‘number ones and twos’ dolls – which are not meant to offend, but make you laugh and maybe help your child’s toilet training – as well as monster and skeleton plush softies. Not for the faint-hearted!
