Mary’s Market

15 June 2009

Marys_Holly_Chic_1.jpgMary’s Market began in 2006, specializing in end of line, seconds and samples of baby and kids products. We’ve been hearing a lot about Mary’s Market, so we went along to the Takapuna based market on the weekend to check it out.

What we discovered was an old New Zealand style market with large trestle tables fill of products by some of the top designers and manufacturers in the baby industry. While most stands weren’t a lot to look at, the quality of the products, and the bargain prices could certainly not be overlooked.

Marys_Poppit_Nappies.jpgAt the door we were greeted by Mary, who offered us the opportunity to enter into the draw to win a fantastic prize. Once we’d made sure we were in to win, it was time to explore the market stalls. The market itself is reasonably small, approximately 20 or so stall holders, although the number of stall holders vary according to the location and month, and it wasn’t long before deciding that was a good thing! Each one had such lovely products at such fantastic prices, it would have been far too easy to blow the budget and buy something from everyone.

Marys_Baby_Love_Merino.jpgAmong our favorite stands were Puku Design (bins full of their funky clothing as low as $10 per piece), Made4Baby (such fantastic skincare that we couldn’t walk by without picking some up while we could get it on sale), Holly Chic (some of the loveliest bedding, baby accessories, toys and wall art all beautifully laid out on display), Playhouse Kids (t-shirts and rompers at just $10 each, and my personal favorite, their pinnies, at $15 each), Pipi Child and Baby Love Merino (it’s winter, who could walk past high quality merino at discounted prices?!) and Popit (we love their wrap slings!).

With plans to expand outside of Auckland later this year, Mary’s Market is sure to become a firm favorite with parents and parents-to-be all across New Zealand. We’ll keep you posted on the progress of future dates and venues, and in the meantime, if you live in Auckland, make sure you schedule Saturday the 18th of July into your diary and head down to Freemans Bay between 9am and 1pm. Just make sure you have plenty of space cleared out in the car ready for taking your purchases home.
